The library media center opened its doors in January 2000. It currently houses over 4000 books and 20 computers. While small, the center is warm, welcoming, and well used by the SCS community.

While donated books form an important segment of our collection, annual fundraising provides resources for the purchase of new titles. The Birthday Book Club program encourages families to donate new books from the Librarys Wish List to commemorate students birthdays.

The library is equipped with the Winnebago/Spectrum Circ/Cat System to maintain the database of patrons and volumes. Our media lab consists of 20 iMac computers and printers. We are currently in the process of securing funding for our IT program that would include replacement of all our computers.

All SCS students come to the Library Media Center at least once a week. K-5 students primarily use the library section of the center. Cluster 3 students receive typing instruction, participate in Internet research, and work on class assignments.

SCS encourages literacy and a life-long love of reading in all our students. Our graduates leave SCS computer literate, seeing technology as a powerful tool in education and the workplace.

Fundraising

The major fundraising event for the library is the Scholastic Book Fair held annually in the Playbox. The goal of the Book Fair is to provide SCS students with age-appropriate reading material and the SCS library with funds to purchase new books. Each Fair has a theme and lasts approximately 5 days. The usual Fair hours are 3-4pm. There is a teacher/student preview on the first day. Teachers create wish lists for their classrooms that are posted at the Fair. In that way, parents can purchase books for classrooms while still contributing part of the money spent to the SCS library.

Thank you for making our Fall fundraiser a great success! We have raised $915.00 in cash for the library account, and we have received over $400.00 worth of books for SCS library. This all on top of fulfilling teachers' wishlists, and providing quality reading material for our children! Thank you again, and see you in the Fall 2008!

Birthday Book Club

The birthday Book Club provides your family with an opportunity to celebrate your childs birthday with the gift of giving. As your childs birthday nears, look together over the librarys wish list and select a title you both like. Then either purchase the book or donate an amount requested for the purchase. When your chosen book arrives at the SCS library, the librarian places a commemorative plaque in the book with an inscription of your choice. You may also choose to celebrate a family/friends birthday by donating a book of his/her special interest.
